The Joy of Cooking Placemat Stories

1998-2000 / oil and mixed medium on paper

Stories were derived from the Joy of Cooking cookbook. They took on a roll as a placemat in size and alternative subject matter. Humorous and iconic, they draw attention through color, movement, and a dream-like out-of-body composition.

Images were a take off from my “recipe story” images from the Toklas Cookbook. The kitchen as a metaphor to psychological awareness and healing, in a somewhat humorous way, are a personal journey for the viewer.

All images are oil on acid free archival paper, floated under glass, 9x12
